How to merge PDF files on a phone or computer

Many forms ask for a single PDF containing several documents: ID, certificates, a cover letter. Merging is simple, but a little preparation avoids having to redo it.
Before you merge
- Name files in order (01-cover, 02-id, 03-certificate) so they are easy to arrange.
- Convert any photos into PDF with Images to PDF.
- Unlock password-protected files with Unlock PDF if you know the password.
On a computer
Open Merge PDF, drag all the files onto the page, then drag the cards into the order you want. Click merge and download. The pages are copied as-is, so quality does not change.
On Android or iPhone
Open avalpdf in Chrome or Safari, tap the drop area, and choose files from your phone storage, Files app or Google Drive. Arrange them with long-press and drag, then merge. The finished PDF lands in your Downloads or Files app.
After merging
Use Organise pages to fix any page that ended up in the wrong place, Add page numbers if the recipient will refer to pages, and Compress PDF if the merged file exceeds an upload limit.
